The Collections — Handmade Ceramic Art by Fernando Durao

Handmade ceramic art collections — Unikas Black, Unikas Quartz and Moradores by Fernando Durao, Buenos Aires

Three collections of handmade ceramic art, made in a single studio in Buenos Aires by a single potter with thirty-five years at the wheel. Each piece is wheel-thrown in high-fire stoneware, finished with a custom mineral slip, and fired at 1200°C. No molds. No editions. No reorders. Every piece that leaves Durao Studio is one of a kind — and ships to the United States with a signed certificate of authenticity.

Unikas Black — Handmade Ceramic Art in Black Stoneware

Wheel-thrown black stoneware vases finished with a custom mineral iron oxide slip — applied by brush in layers, fired at 1200°C. The surface ranges from deep matte to quiet satin depending on the layers applied and the firing temperature reached. Each piece is unrepeatable. Each occupies a room without competing with it.

Unikas Quartz — White Mineral-Texture Handmade Ceramic Art

White stoneware vessels finished with a mineral quartz slip — kaolin, feldspar, and quartz, applied by brush in multiple layers. The surface is matte and coarse to the touch, like compressed stone. In natural light it reads warm and textured. In low light it becomes quieter, denser, more contained. Every piece is one of a kind.

Moradores — Abstract Ceramic Sculpture

Abstract figurative sculptures begun on the wheel and developed by hand — through pinching, paddling, and adding clay — until the form resolves into something that could not have been planned and cannot be repeated. The name comes from the Spanish word for inhabitants. These objects don’t decorate a room. They live in it. Each piece is fired at 1200°C and finished with the same black mineral slip as the Unikas Black collection.
